No More Teachers, No More Books...

Our summer officially started one hour ago!! Hooray! It looks like they let Jacob move on to 3rd grade, so we told Dillman good bye and came home to celebrate. (Little does Dillman know..we will be back in August with Mr. Riley) The boys started things off with a bang, they are in the front yard now with water guns and the sprinkler.

Playing in the Wheat

Kelly called and asked if I would take the boys out to a field of wheat and look for Manuel's phone. Kelly and Manuel had been working on the sprinkler in the wheat field earlier in the day and Manual had lost his phone then. Kyle was asleep in the car when we got there and so I told Jacob and Riley to get out and help me. Riley chickened out because the wheat was too tall, so Jacob and I took off through the wheat to find the spot where they had worked on the pivot. Once we got there, I called Manuel's phone with my cell phone and we heard Manuel's phone ring instantly. After digging around, we found the phone. Jacob thought it was so much fun, he wanted to do it again. On the way back to the car, Jacob said, "Mom, can we throw dad's phone out in the wheat and call with your phone to look for it...?" I told Jacob to ask his dad that question.

Allergies...

We have all been suffering from allergies, but Kyle is just miserable! He cannot breathe when he is laying down, so he is not resting well at all. (Which means I am not resting well, either.) Kyle also has a bad case of pink eye. He has to be miserable with eyes that hurt, a stopped up nose and to top it all off, he is teething. I stayed home from church today because I did not want to take a cranky baby and spend the entire time trying to keep him happy.

Kelly is still working hard to get everything planted. Hopefully, he is done planting cotton. We thought he was done last week and he ended up replanting one field yesterday. Today, he should finish planting the male pollinators for the seed milo and then he can plant the corn for silage. (The corn for grain was planted several weeks ago.) If everything goes smoothly (and it never does) we should be done with most of the planting in another week. We have a good chance for rain this evening. Rain would be wonderful... Kelly would have to take a break!

Go Muckdogs!

The Muckdogs (Jacob's team) played the Storm (Luke and Triston's team) the other night. The best thing happened.... we tied. No one has bragging rights. We will play the Storm one more time before the end of the season.

Green Beans

Kyle had his first taste of real food last week when we broke out some green beans. I think he has been watching his brother, Riley, a little too much. Riley makes a terrible face when he has to eat green beans and Kyle looked very similar.



This weekend, I found some of that chocolate in a cup. The kind you just stick in the microwave and heat up, then you can dip fruit or whatever you want in it. (I guess you could just dip your finger in there, if that tickles your fancy.) Well, I got everything out that I could possibly think of to dip in the chocolate and the boys went to town. Riley's favorite was marshmallows and Jacob's was bananas. I have to agree with Jacob! Then they started making fruit kabobs with all the fruit and treats. We had a lot of fun!

KFC Awards

Our church has an after school program called KFC, Kids for Christ. In the program, the kids have to memorize a lot of Bible verses to move up in rank. They start as a Page and learn the "Armor of God". Then, they become a Squire and they have to memorize 10 Bible verses. The kids continue to move up the rank all the way to King/Queen memorizing many Bible verses along the way. Each level is a little harder than the one before. Last night, Jacob passed the 4th level. He is now working on Knight of the Sword. To receive his Knight of the Sword patch, he will have to memorize 5 different sections. They are Ephesians 6:13 - 17, the verses that talk about the Armor of God, Matthew 5:3 - 12, the Beatitudes, Psalm 100, a song of Thanksgiving, 4 other Bible verses and all the books of the Bible. This is a lot of work, but the kids are so excited when they pass and reach the next level.

Plowing, Planting and Baseball

There are a few that thought I was MIA, but we are still here. It amazes me every year how fast the month of May can fly by. Here we sit in the middle of the month and if I blink too long, June will be here. Kelly has been as busy as always getting the cotton in the ground. He has put in ridiculous hours trying to get as much done as humanly possible in a day. Things were running on track until today when we got a little more rain. (maybe another 1/2 inch) Although the rain has set us back, we are thankful for the moisture! As if planting cotton was not stressful enough, Kelly has had to drop everything and run to town for baseball games. The games are fun to watch, but sitting in the wind (and blowing dirt) is something I can do without. Jacob had a great game last Saturday! He made a double play and was hitting the ball very well. Riley is having a lot of fun and likes to wear his uniform. Translation: Riley does not pay attention 95% of the time and when he does, he still can't stop the ball. But he sure looks cute in his uniform! This weekend both boys have 2 games and then we are in the downhill stretch of the season. We are all looking forward to summer. Only 10 days left of school!

Answered Prayer

We finally received a rain!!! We thought our chances had past and then the sky opened up and the rain came. We didn't have to build an ark, but it was enough to put a smile on Kelly's face. At the house, we received 1.6 inches and at the west farms it was somewhere between .5 and 1.25 inches. The east farms received more. Our last rain was July 4th of 2007. Thank you Jesus for the much needed moisture!

On another note... Today is Kindergarten round up. Riley is signed up and ready to go.

Let the Games Begin...

Today is opening day for the little league baseball here and we had a day full of excitement. After opening ceremonies, we grabbed some lunch and did team pictures. Then, both boys had games this afternoon. Jacob played well and he had a few good hits. Riley had fun. He has a little problem paying attention. (Riley and most of the team, that is.) I am exhausted from a long day. Coaching t-ball is one tough job!

It is official. Riley graduated from Kinder Korner and is ready for Kindergarten. The ceremony was really cute. Riley's job was to say the prayer. He did really well in all the practices, but got a little nervous during the graduation service. He managed to say the prayer very softly. It is amazing how much Riley has grown up over the last year. He surprises me with the things he is willing to do. A year ago, Riley would have never agreed to say the prayer, but he acted as if it was not a big deal at all to do it today. I think he is ready to go to Kindergarten.... I wonder if those teachers are ready for Riley!
